Safety Protections for Your Children
Our goal is to create a safe online destination so that children visiting our site can have a rewarding experience. We take many steps to provide safety and security for our members, including the use of technology that not only automatically filters out a list of unacceptable words and phrases but also uses more sophisticated analytic techniques to try to identify unacceptable communications and behaviors that simple word analysis would miss. This filter also blocks standard number and street address patterns to prevent innocent or accidental disclosures of that kind of personal information.
We recognize that despite our use of filtering technologies, no system is perfect or can block someone who is determined to try to get around the filters. Because of those limitations, we also employ live monitors who are trained, background checked, professionals with experience working with children, and who are committed to the safe play of our members. Our live monitors are notified of suspicious behaviors automatically by the system, and they can also be alerted by members as needed.
In addition to our personnel and our technology, you, as the parent, are an important element of your child's online safety. We encourage you to discuss online safety with your child and be our partner in providing your child with a safe online experience. The following rules apply to your child's participation in MyMiniPeeps, and we encourage you to discuss them with your child and to ensure that your child understands what they mean and the types of actions they cover:
1.No personal information - Your child should not use or provide, and should not ask for, any real names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, Facebook, Twitter or other social media or online gaming site user IDs or any other type of identifying information.
2.No inappropriate language - Although our filter will catch a lot, it can't catch everything. We ask you to talk with your child about the type of language that is appropriate for an online environment where other children are present.
3.No bullying - Members are expected to be kind and respectful to all others at all times. We ask you to talk with your child about the type of behavior that is appropriate for an online environment where other children are present.
Our monitors will try to catch and address any inappropriate behavior they become aware of, but our members are encouraged to report any violations of the three simple rules. One easy way for a child to do this is by clicking on the avatar of a member who the child believes has violated the rules. When an avatar is clicked, a menu pops up and one of the options will be a whistle. Clicking on the whistle reports that member to us, and we will investigate that member's conduct. Please note that in the interests of fairness we will also investigate the conduct of the reporting member, as well, we recognize that, despite our hopes and best efforts, some players just may not get along. Members also have the ability to block out other players, which will make them invisible to each other.
Our Unique Parent Portal
We are proud to have created a unique parent portal that allows you as the parent to approve and monitor your child's play and various aspects of his or her interaction on our world.
The parent portal allows you to:
1.choose whether your child is limited to menu-based chat (where your child can choose among prescribed statements like, "Hi!" and "I'm fine.") vs. free text chat (where your child can type whatever he or she wants, subject to the rules and the filters)
2.choose whether your child can participate in our special MyPage social networking portal
3.choose to approve your child's buddies that have access to their MyPage social networking page
4.choose to monitor/control how much time your child may spend on MyMiniPeeps per day
5.choose to limit time per log in
6.choose to pre-approve all of your child's user generated submissions
You can also
blog and chat with other parents, read articles and explore links to resources about children's health and well-being, and other relevant issues.
